Approximately 50% of the graduating housestaff seek subspecialty training. The majority of our residents obtain their top choices for fellowship training both at UCSD and at prestigious programs around the country. Many of our graduates choose to remain in Southern California and have matched very well despite the competitiveness of academic fellowship programs in this area. For those graduates wishing to remain in general internal medicine practice, the growing San Diego community offers many excellent practice opportunities.
